Is this bizarre??? Eek

Two normal, ordinary women undergo drastic surgery to become Barbie dolls and compete to see who gets to go on and be named Queen Barbie doll. Roll Eyes

That being said....Kelly was a neurotic basket case, and Rachel ought to dump her unsupportive husband AND tell her father off. Mad

There. Smile

I've not watched this show because the ads made me sad. Not a big fan of "reality" shows but this one seems cruel. Plastic surgery should be reserved for those who are disfigured by accident or birth defect, like cleft palate.

No, I'm not 100% satisfied with my body but it works well enough. Sort of like my car- it's got dings and scratches but it gets me there.

Do we really need another show that says people aren't worthy if they don't look 25 when they're 40? Or that there is one standard of beauty? YUCK.

Oh I loved the show! It is better than Extreme Makeover in my opinion.

And Raku, while pastic surgery is great for those who are truely disfigured, these women have led lives as "ugly ducklings" and have been taunted and teased as children. They deserve a chance to be made pretty on the outside. And I also commend the show for including Therapy as part of the makeover. They need help on the inside as well as the outside.

I thought Rachel looked gorgeous. Kelly, on the other hand, looked like a little girl playing in her mother's makeup, wardrobe, and wigs! Can't decide if she looked like a drag queen...or a blow up doll! Eek

While I have not seen the swan, this show just really really bothers me. The women who are coming on this show have a really low selfesteem. They are not ugly, they are just average. Yet when the surgery is done, before hand every single one of thier flaws are pointed out. They should be getting therapy BEFORE the show, not during. So, now that you have reinforced the image in thier mind that thier old selves are horrible, you give them a new one. and then you put them in a beauty pagent. So for the one person that doesn't win, not only is thier old self horrible, but so is thier new self. Thier old self is not good enough, and neither is thier new self. Boy what a failure these women are. Isn't that what the show is telling them? arg, this show just really really bothers me.

Georgia- who didn't get teased and taunted in childhood? Everyone goes through an ugly duckling phase, whether or not they have a physical reason to or not. Dealing with it through surgery on national tv seems so pathetic. At least they're getting some therapy. One concern though, how well will they function once the spotlight is off and they go back to their old lives? With everyone around them knowing their business (or the television representation of such)?

Much more impressive, to me, were the doctors who went to impoverished countries in South American and performed surgeries on children who had very deformed faces. No chance of even looking average without help. I wish I could remember the show's title- it was on some time ago on TLC or some cable channel like that.

Raku, I know all about teasing - I was the ugliest girl in grade-school. I was picked on, taunted, teased...the whole 9 yards. And I didn't start feeling secure about myself until I discovered makeup, special effects, and wigs and created a new persona for me.

But we have to realize, the women on this show chose to do it. The producers didn't hang out in the parking lot of Waffle House and approach every ugly duckling that walked by. These women heard about an opportunity to become something they had only dreamed was possible. Let's face it, plastic surgery is expensive and if these women had the money, they probably would have done this on their own in the first place. But when the possiblity of being a beautiful person is handed to you on a silver platter...well you'd be a fool to look a gift horse in the face Smile

I can see I'll be the only one enjoying this series. Oh well, you'll all know where I'll be tonight at 9 pm Big Grin

Enjoy, Georgia!

I've never been one to think the cover was so important as the content. I was the kid who took mommy's make up and painted murals on the wall instead of putting it on my face.

From what I've read, your "inner swan" did just fine. Smile

I really didn't enjoy this show. I thought Rachel looked horrible. I thought you could totally tell she had plastic surgery. It didn't make her look like a barbie doll, it made her look completely fake.

I don't mean to be rude, but when I saw her, her face reminded me of Michael Jackson.

Well, I watched it last night to see what you were all talking about. All I can say is what a bunch of freaks!!! (and I'm not talking about the patients). The girls...well, they were just two whiney average looking babies!!!

Lydia, you should have seen the first one. They were even more whinier...if that is even possible!

Lydia, Kelly was the girl in the first episode who hadn't been romantic with her boy friend for 7 years. She was the first one to be told she was going to be a Swan and she was blubbering so much when she answered the door that her face was all splotchy. When she was "transformed" she was the second girl to enter into the room for the great reveal. She had the long bleach blonde hair that looked like a cheap wig to me Big Grin but she was compared to Marilyn Monroe by the doctors who were there.

And as for finding out about these shows, I imagine local radio stations and TV stations announce that applications are being taken for an upcoming reality show and if you are interested then submit a video explaining why you would be perfect for the show. That's how it's done here, anyway.

I was a little dissapointed in last night's makeovers. They just didn't seem as dramatic to me as the week before.

I managed to watch about 20 minutes of
that show before my ears started bleeding.
Those are the whiniest people...shrill and
annoying. I think this is the worst of
the new reality shows (so far).

Well I work abt 10 hours a day. Get home by 7 pm take a shower and start watching shows at 8. Why do you think I don't like to get on the computer when I get home? Razz

And that's also why my weekends are filled with running errands and house cleaning.

I just started watching this show a couple of weeks ago, and yes it is stupid, its all staged and I dont believe these women havent seen themselves in 3 months. They look so different at the end of the show for a couple of reasons, they have had their makeup professionally done, they have had their hair done and most have had extensions put in, my question is this, why didnt they just do the makeup and the hair put them in a nice dress and see how they looked before going through the surgeries? they could have sent them to the gym and put them on a diet too. I can understand a few of the nose jobs, but the torture some of them go through is just ridiculous. This is just more proof that society feels that woman who dont look like "Barbie dolls" are not accepted, stupid show, that sends a terrible message to all the young girls out there!!
