I watch these kind of shows any
chance I get, but I do not believe
I could ever do what they do.

Do you watch ? Do you think you would
enjoy trying to live as people did back
in the 17th century for a year ?

I saw one show.. based in England.. where they took a turn of the century home.. and tried to make it exactly as it would have been back in the 1890's. They interviewed many many families and finally decided on one with like 6 kids.

It was interesting, however, some of the equipment was not correctly put together (such as an old coal/wood stove) so that food wasn't being cooked correctly. The "new fangled" gas lighting was too dangerous for them to really risk actually using, etc.

They spent thousands working on that home... but I don't think it was very successful. They couldn't risk having the 6 year old help stir the clothing in the boiling kettle as washing and transfer it with wooden paddles like they really WOULD have back then.

It was back-breaking labor just to survive back then. I guess I am very spoiled by my life as it is.

I've watched them, and there is no WAY I could do it....I didn't see any place to plug in my make-up mirror.

I watched one. There is no way I could do it. City girl here use to all of life's luxuries.

i would probably love this show to death.

and, if i was healty, you bet i could live like that! heck, for a few years of my life, with the exception of having a truck, we DID live like that. (we had one of those ringer washer things. you poured boiling water into it, agitated the clothes, the ran them through the ringer. the soap residue wasnt the coolest, but it smelled good).

for your area. It is neat to watch,
and the people seem to really get into
trying to make it as accurate to the
period as possible.

I happened across a show like that last weekend, don't know if it was Frontier House, but it was very interesting.

I'm thinking I could do it and would be a natural, but I'd sure miss the comforts of home - you know, the TV, Radio, Computer....
