What is the first book you read all by yourself?

Absolutely no clue. I read so many books as a youth I couldn't possibly remember which was first!

First vacation you can remember as a child.

Oh I can rememeber it well. It was Scotland. We went there just about every summer.
I can remember being so excited about the vacation coming up, but it seemed such a long wait until the day we would actually leave. I was about 4 at the time, and little kids have no concept of time in the same way that adults do.
Then after all this planning and talking and waiting, suddenly we were loading up the car and off we went.

I had one as a kid and recall having a spend the night party where we slept outside - I must have been seven or eight. The first time I used one in the wilderness was at Wiseman's view, in the North Carolina mountains, at age 11.
