Brother Fuse!!! Except for putting mayonnaise on hot dogs and occasionally cutting the line at the entrance to Shea Stadium we have a lot in common Big Grin . I do not make it a regular habit cutting the line at Shea as I am usually there well before game time. The last time I did it was Opening Day 2002. I parked and ran to the stadium at 12:45. (First pitch 1:10) There was a huge line, more than 1,500 folks deep at each entrance. They were having trouble with the new security measures put into place. I meandered my way very close to the gate D entrance (I was alone so it was easy Wink ) and slipped under a police barricade (saw horses) and moved a steel "people corral" and slipped right in front of the guy frisking folks. Several followed my lead but none other than me made it in as the police tossed them. Knowing I would have had a nervous breakdown waiting in line as the game started (see my previous Mets obsession post for full explanation Roll Eyes ) it seemed the only logical thing to do.

I did kind of feel bad for many folks as the stadium was not packed until about the third inning, but I got to see the first pitch Wink . Ok, truth be known I did not feel too bad for those folks with backpacks and other large items that was causing the delay to get in. I travel light, only a foam can cooler (emptied on route) in one hand was all I brought. They do sell beer inside ya know!

As for the mayonnaise on a hot dog, if I did not love ketchup as much I just might try it.

I love heights Bob! I try and get the best vantage point from tall objects that I can. A couple of years ago I kept getting "shooed" away while on the observation floor of the Sears Tower. I stepped onto the rail by the window and placed my head right up against the glass (damn inside observation area! Razz ) so I could get the best possible view straight down.

During my 18 years I came to bat almost 10,000 times. I struck out about 1,700 times and walked maybe 1,800 times. You figure a ballplayer will average about 500 at bats a season. That means I played seven years without ever hitting the ball. ~Mickey Mantle, 1970

I'm Ok with Heights though I remember somebody at school panic attack when they were on top of a 15 ft high temporary construction with 1 open edge to the floor below (the platform was about 6ft deep)

I only panic if I'm at the top of a flight of stairs in a strange dark house! Frown

OK, what situation makes you panic? Roll Eyes

There have been times when I've been worried if something bad has happened to a loved one, but I don't really call that "panicking" -- to me, that is a normal reaction. Other than that, I don't think I'm the panicky type.

Wow, five years from now? I will be an empty-nester without teenage kids. My hair loss and graying might stop! Oh, and I expect to have put my lottery winnings to good use Smile

Have you ever driven out of your way to a distant airport for a lower fare?

I don't believe so..Even if I could have saved a few bucks, the convenience/less chaotic nature of Hartford beats New York or Boston anytime..

Not for a lower fare, but for the convenience of a nicer airport, absolutely. I prefer to fly out of Baltimore International when I fly.

would you rather fly or drive on vacation?

I prefer to drive...I keep so much "stuff" in my truck that I want with me on a daily basis that it's much easier and it saves me renting a car when I get there.

Do you have a favorite artist? (I mean the sort of art one hangs on walls or puts on pedestals)

Damn! Late again Roll Eyes ! This answer is in response to Fuse's airport question. As you can tell I like airports and since I already wrote it I am going to post it anyway Razz .

To answer MrsS's question no, I don't have a favorite artist.

Please ignore the following if you like,,,

For personal matters or vacations no I have never done that Fuse.

I live in a well serviced area via air. I live pretty close to Macarthur Airport (Islip) witch is I guess what you would consider the "out of the way low cost airport" around here. It is not a tiny airport like back when I was a kid, but it aint' no Kennedy International either. Macarthur Airport used to have one baggage carousel and about 10 passenger jet flights a day back in the 1970's. Now it serves over two million flyers a year and Southwest Airlines built a gleaming new terminal a few years ago to go along with the modernization and improvements that occurred there in the 1980's and 1990's.

I generally fly out of and into LaGuardia Airport for domestic flights though. It is not too far away. (About 25 miles) I prefer this airport over Macarthur Airport due to there is many more direct flights that go where I need to go. At most I have one plane change out of there as opposed to two or four out of Macarthur Airport.

The two other large airports close to me are Kennedy International and Newark International. (Now called Liberty International) Whenever traveling internationally I fly out of either of these as the choices are much better for direct flights and times.

For work I have had to do some driving to save some money sometimes. I used to regularly fly to Brownsville Texas. There is an airport in town (Brownsville / South Padre Island Airport) and it reminds me a lot of Macarthur Airport back in the 1970's. They have one baggage carousel and about six flights a day.

To save a buck I have flown into Valley International Airport (Harlingen, Texas) and McAllen Miller International Airport (McAllen, Texas) a few times each. Both are bigger than Brownsville but they are 1-2 hour drive away from where I needed to go. I don't really mind that on arrival, but the departing flight is killer. I always fly when I can on the first flight of the day. (5:00-6:00AM) It is one of my little tricks to get the best chance of on time traveling. Getting up at 2:30-3:00AM aint' always fun though Razz .

Have you ever had anything confiscated from you at an airport? Is so, please explain.

Yes. Roll Eyes One of those stupid little pocket knives that every business gives out as a promotion. You know, the ones with the little scissors that couldn't cut paper, the knife that couldn't make you bleed and the nail file. I think there's some tweezers and a toothpick in them too. The airport lady whipped that thing out of my purse and said, 'I'm going to have to get someone over here to look at this.' Roll Eyes I told her just to keep it and I went on my way. Like I could take over a plane with that thing.....pluh-eez

Funny you should ask that Jenni. Big Grin

On one of my trips to McAllen Miller International Airport (McAllen, Texas) in 2000 I had something taken away from me. I was traveling for work and always used to carry on my toolbox. When my toolbox went through the x-ray machine obviously they wanted to open it. The woman went through all the tools and said I cannot bring my small plastic hammer on board. It was odd to me as it was a tiny hammer (6" long) and had a one ounce head Confused . I questioned the screener's logic as those box cutters, manual drill with bits, 14" screwdrivers, 12" adjustable wrench, volt meter, pliers, and vice grips were much more potent weapons than the small "ladies hammer". Once I mentioned that in fact I could remove the wing of the aircraft in flight with all those tools without using the "ladies hammer" she called security Roll Eyes . After a brief argument I was allowed to enter the aircraft with my toolbox, less the tiny hammer. The reasoning was the other items were not listed on the "not allowed list" but hammers were Razz .

Nope, never. But I still get nervous going through those metal detectors, worrying about whether my fillings/earrings/etc will set them off. (I don't fly much)

what is your favorite way to usher in the spring season?

Without doubt attending Opening Day at Shea is the way I love to usher in spring every year. Seeing the deep green grass for the first time of the year always makes me feel better. Although Mother Nature can be unsettled in early April as I have attended games that were very warm and a few that were cold, even snow flurries one year Eek ! I hope Monday is just like today weather wise.
