What are your favorite "car songs"?
I don't mean songs you especially like to listen to while driving, I mean songs about cars.

My favorites, in no particular order are:
409

Little Deuce Coupe

Mustang Sally

Paradise by the Dashboard lights (I know- it's a bit of a reach to class it as a "car song", but I always picture a '69 Impala SS as the "scene of the crime"Wink)

Hot Rod Lincoln(of course)

GTO

Last Kiss

Riding With Private Malone

and Alan Jackson's "Drive"

Oh here's another couple I remembered:

Tracy Chapman, "Fast car"

and

The Cars, "Drive"

OK, they're not exactly about cars, but do have driving themes..sort of Big Grin

God, they're depressing, but still good.

The Tracy Chapman song is so bittersweet, so sad, it is difficult to listen to. Plans that will never come true.

Yes it is JR, and most of her songs are very poignant. "The Promise" is one of my favourites by Chapman, from her fourth cd. She has a beautiful voice, but so melancholy.

Back to car songs, we have to include Tom Cochrane's, "Life is a Highway" Canadian, eh Smile

Some of my favorite “driving” songs that have something to do with cars, or the road are:

Hot Dogs and Hamburgers ~ John Mellencamp

Little Red Corvette ~ Prince

Ventura Highway ~ America

Fun, Fun, Fun ~ The Beach Boys

Running on Empty ~ Jackson Browne

Flirtin’ With Disaster ~ Molly Hatchet

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And their Wall shall stand forever
So long as freedom shines
On the splendor and the glory
Of the Carolina pines.
Charlie Ryan is from my neck of the woods, Spokane, and supposedly his inspiration for "Hot Rod Lincoln" was a race he was involved in going up the Old Lewiston Grade going up out of Lewiston, Idaho. That YouTube video doesn't really do justice to the lovely little hill, but you get a vague idea of it. I can't imagine ever going up that thing fast enough to be involved in anything that could be remotely called a race. Several miles of nothing but hairpin turns. That Hot Rod Lincoln must really have been souped up! Most normal people don't go up that thing at much more that 25 mph at the top speed. I've been up and down it numerous times.
If you have 6 1/2 minutes to spare, here's a view of someone actually riding up the hill on a motorcycle.
And if you REALLY don't have a life, Big Grin, here's the same grade going downhill.
