What are some of your favorite songs written for a movie; and that are well placed within the movie to cause the best effect? (and why)

The song “ The Ecstasy of Gold ” that was in “ The Good, The Bad and The Ugly ” sits high atop my list. The build up to it and the scene of Eli Wallach (The Ugly) running through the graveyard looking for the grave that contains the gold is very well made. The song fits perfectly.

You can feel his ecstasy as he runs, searching and then finding what he believes to be the right grave.

I was watching The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly last night (After the Mets game Wink ) and cranked up the sound for that song. My wife came in to see what the racket was and watched the rest of the movie with me. (She was in bed, but not sleeping) She made the comment about how great a song it is. Great movie, great song,,,

I do like Metallica’s live version of it (From S&M) but the original has stood the test of time.

I never know for sure which movie songs were written specifically for the movie, but some that I think work in their context :

When Kenny Loggins' "I'm Alright" started playing and the gopher popped back up during Caddyshack I stood up and applauded in the theater, as did many of the others there.

When the prwhistoric ape-man was learning to use the club to destroy and "Also Sprach Zarathustra" was playing in 2001 : A Space Odyssey" I literally got the chills.

"Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" perfectly set the light mood before the inevitable bad end in Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid

Those are the ones that imediately come to mind. I will revisit this thread with others when I think of them.

I can't help but sing "The Bare Necessities" out loud when The Jungle Book comes on.

Thanks 'fuse. Now I'm going to be singing that song all day! LOL! Razz

I'm not sure what my favorite lyrical songs would be, but I do have two very favorite instrumental soundtracks. I love the opening song from 'Last of the Mohicans' with Daniel Day Lewis. It is such a powerful opening sound. The drama just builds and builds until you're practically on the edge of your seat, just from the music. What a great score.

My other favorite is the theme from Schindler's List. What a gorgeous strings solo. It's so mellowing and haunting. Fantastically composed for such a movie.
