If the little screen counts, Barry Nelson portrayed Bond in the CBS Television presentation of "Casino Royale" - in 1954, well before the 1962 release "Dr. No," starring Sean Connery, on the big screen.

Yes, Fuse, the little screen counts, and that is why I phrased the question as I did. Nelson's Bond ws called "Jimmy" and, if I remember correctly, he was portrayed as an American, but it was a scene out of Fleming's Casino Royale. I saw this a few years ago; give me Connery any day. Fleming, by the way, said that he had a mental picture of Hoagy Carmichael when describing Bond.
