Adam, Aaron and David all had this thing happen to them. Jacob mistakenly thought it had happened to him, and Abraham almost had to do it himself, but in the end he did't. What am I talking about?

The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories thatbecome legends. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind rose in the Mountians of the Mist. The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.-The Wheel of Time

Losing a son.

Adam lost Abel to Cain
Aaron, I'm not sure about.
David, same as Aaron.

Jacob thought he lost Joseph
Abraham almost lost his son in an altar sacrifice.

To round out this post:

Aaron lost his sons, Nadab and Abihu
David lost Absalom

In both cases rebellion was the cause.
