Can anybody give us some rough dates when the Football season runs (and is there a "Close" season league in the summer?) The UK Rugby League Clubs run such a scheme quite successfully See Engage SuperLeague Only differences are the team kit changes and the Name of the club changes Wigan become Wigan Warriors . Most of the Team play year round and Several international Players from Other Countries make up the Numbers

Talking about the closed season. What sport will you watch or talk about when there is nothing on TV ?

The UK Soccer season ends Tomorrow with the Final play off promotion "Final" then Its the FA cup final next Saturday Then the Next match is the Charity Shield (same Teams)and the New season Kicks off Mid August either on the 15 or the 22nd (I think it'll be the 22nd)
Only thing that the Papers and Sports commentators will be able to talk about is who will be playing for who next season and What coach is leading the Sack race...Who will be first to lose their Job?

The only sports I actively follow are baseball and (American) football. I do watch golf once in a while.

Baseball starts in April and ends in October.

Football starts in August and winds up in February.

From middle February until April I don't follow any sport. I will look into spring training (baseball) but I don't closely follow it.

I take that time to do any major home improvement projects. It is cold and gets dark early so that is the only time I really have to get things done inside my home. In my advanced years I have refused to work in the house when it is nice outside.

I fish a lot and play golf here and there, but golf is a game not really a sport in my opinion, and fishing is a hobby / food gathering activity.

Our soccer season is getting longer all the time! At one time it started in late September and was over by May, the FA Cup Final (then early in May) being regarded as after the end of the regular season. Now it runs from late August right into May,the Cup final this year being on May 30th. To add to that,every two years there's either the European international or the World Cup tournament in Summer.Players in top teams play well over 60 games a season, because they have 38 league games plus various European club and domestic Cup competitions.The cricket teams feel a bit put out, their game being purely a Summer one, save that the international teams spend our Winter playing in countries where our Winter is Summer.
